
This 35-ft idol has become the cynosure of all visitors at Saheed Nagar today.
The puja pandal has been decorated by members of Winner Association near Imfa Park at near Saheed Nagar.
“For the first time, such a huge idol of Ganesh has been made by any community pandal in the city. We’re excited to see people flocking the pandal,” said Niroj, a member of the association.
Idol makers from West Bengal have worked on it for over a month. Around Rs 4 lakh has been spent on it.
“We have decided to dissolve the idol at the pandal and immerse a smaller one in the river according to rituals,” a member added.
The association that has been celebrating Ganesh Puja for the last 12 years will organize special cultural programmes for five days this time.
“We have invited visually-challenged and unprivileged children to the puja and arranged special programmes for them,” he said.
A drawing competition on Ganesh Puja is also being organized for schoolchildren.
Last year, the Binapani Club in Cuttack has also come up with a huge idol. Ganesh Utsav is observed with great fanfare in the state.
Over 100 community puja pandals have erected huge mandaps and tableaus for the festival in the capital city alone.
