In the ever evolving entertainment space of the city, private FM radio stations have been constantly on their toes to deliver the best content and experience to their audience. From the standpoint of commercial success, if anything is critical to the growth of FM radio stations, it’s the voice of their RJs.
Meet Rajiv Nair, aka RJ Rajiv, an immensely talented and popular RJ of 92.7 BIG FM, whose vivacious voice has recently been nominated to the list of prestigious GOLDEN MIKES AWARD.
Our team at Discover Bhubaneswar caught up with RJ Rajiv to explore more about the man who has gotten thousands of listeners in the city hooked to their radio on his popular show, Bobal Evening.
Team DB: How did RJaying happen to you?
RJ Rajiv: RJaying happened to me when i came back from Bangalore to Bhubaneswar for the auditions. Prior to 92.7 BIG FM, I was working with an international call center in Bangalore. However, I always wanted to be in Radio. So I came to Bhubaneswar in 2007 when I heard about the audition and it clicked. Thus started my journey.
Team DB: What do you feel are the most challenging things about being an RJ?
RJ Rajiv: You have to maintain your voice, you should be well aware of society, sports, movies and everything about the nation. You have to stay updated all the time.
Team DB: What’s the most memorable day/event in your career as an RJ?
RJ Rajiv: Well, the first would be when I got the offer letter from 92.7 BIG FM that I’d been selected as an RJ. The second most memorably was when I got the news from Mumbai that my voice had been nominated for the prestigious GOLDEN MIKES AWRADS a few days back.
Team DB: Is RJaying in a city like Bhubaneswar any different from doing it in bigger cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore or Kolkata?
RJ Rajiv: YES RJaying in metros is different because the listeners are a bit different as compared to those of Bhubaneswar. However, at the end of the day, the motto of an RJ is to entertain listeners no matter which city he/she belongs to.
Team DB: What would be your message to the all the aspiring RJs in the city?
RJ Rajiv: My message to all the aspiring RJ’s would be this: If you have a flair for talking and if your voice is good then you should give it a try. RJaying is one of the most promising careers and once you pursue this career, sky is the limit after that.
Team DB: Thanks for your time, Rajiv!
RJ Rajiv: Peace! Thanks!
