We’re glad to introduce you to five of those popular beaches of Odisha and a Google map to get there.
Chandrabhaga Beach, Konark
Close to the famous Sun temple (3 kms) of Konark – a World Heritage Monument – it is a lovely and quiet beach. Rated as one of the finest beaches with a long stretch of clean sands and cool blue sea making rapids in the rolling waves, the beach has its own lovely serenity. When the sky is clear, watching the golden sun rising above the blue waters is a life time experience.
The strong currents do not make it either safe or easy for swimming. But the picturesque view of the sunrise and sunset at this place is enchanting.
A large number of pilgrims from across the country take holy dip in this confluence on the Magha Saptami day which falls in February-March every year.

Puri Beach
The golden beach of Puri is one of the best in the country for Sun, Surf and Sand. The beach area has been a popular seaside resort for decades, and some of the old hotels capture the charm of bygone days. For this shining beach, Puri has got its dual importance of a relaxed seaside resort and of an important pilgrimage centre. A stroll along the beach or a much desired bath here in the sea is very much refreshing.
The beach goes festive on occasions like “Kartik Purnima” i.e. the full moon day of the lunar month of Kartik when Hindus gather here in the early morning to take a holy deep and pray sea God.

Gopalpur Beach
Enjoying the reputation of being a popular Beach Resort of Orissa, the deep and clear blue waters instantly provoke those who are good swimmers. The temptation of bathing here is irresistible. Not-so-good swimmers take the hands of the Nolias (local fishermen who help bathers) and enjoy a pleasant bath. White surf splashing on the golden sands makes Gopalpur-on-Sea as one of the finest beaches on the eastern coast. A fascinating haunt for avid beach combers and sea worshippers, it is a splendid retreat. (Image Source: Flickr)

Chandipur Beach
Have you seen the sea disappear in front of your eyes? A unique phenomenon rarely seen anywhere else, the sea recedes by as much as five kilometres every day on the Chandipur beach in eastern India, not just enthralling the onlooker but also offering an opportunity to literally walk into the sea.
Chandipur lies around 200 km from state capital Bhubaneswar. From here, one can either take the train to Balasore, the closest town at a distance of 10 km, and then travel by road, or take the entire journey by road on National Highway 5. One can be assured of a good journey thanks to the green scenery that follows you throughout and good roads.
Considering its uniqueness, the beach supports a varied range of biodiversity. It’s not rare to thus find a horseshoe crab or red crab crawling beside you.
One of nature’s many wonders, the sea recedes massively from the beach during ebb and returns to fill the emptiness during high tide. This hide-and-seek of the sea comes to play twice a day and seeing the sea disappear and then return is an unforgettable experience.
The tide has its timings. Depending on the moon, the timings keep changing. It’s mostly the locals, familiar with the tide’s time, who take their bikes into the sea bed. The others are thrilled just to even walk that distance. (Image Source: Flickr)
