Or faced that dreaded moment when speeding vehicles zip past you as you try to get across to other side of the road?<\/p>\n<p>Well, things are changing for the sure as Pelican is here in Bhubaneswar.<\/p>\n<p>Bhubaneswar Traffic Police along with Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) have now installed four Pedestrian Light Control Activation (Pelican) traffic signals for convenience of pedestrians in the city.<\/p>\n<p>The system allows pedestrians to press a button, activate the red signal and cross the road easily.<\/p>\n<p>In the first phase, the system has been activated in front of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) office, Gate number 4 of the Secretariat, Regional Passport Office and Gate number 3 of Kalinga Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>The pedestrians can now negotiate the traffic signals using the systems at these places.Officials of IBI Group, which is the consulting agency of the BSCL\u2019s Pelican Project, said similar traffic systems for pedestrians are also being installed near District Court, Patia and Shampur.<\/p>\n<p>Under the Pelican crossing system, two poles each have been installed on both sides of the road having a standard set of traffic lights.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The poles at one crossing which are interconnected through antennas. The taller poles are meant for commuters as they can see the traffic signals from a distance. The pole with a shorter height consists of a standard set of traffic lights and is equipped with a pedestrian controlled box equipped with a push button for red, yellow and green lights and a buzzer for the visually impaired walkers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A pedestrian can now register his demand on the button and wait for the vehicular traffic to halt to cross the road.<\/p>\n<p>Courtesy: The New
