The commissionerate of police has introduced an additional 100 pink autorickshwas to the existing 203 pink autos for women, effectively taking the total number to 303 in Bhubaneswar.
Launched in the 27th of June this year, pink autos are yet another woman-friendly transport system in the city in addition to the introduction of woman-only city buses in November last year.
To ensure that pink auto drivers were not affected should there be a shortage of female passengers, the police commissionerate has allowed the pink auto drivers to carry male passengers when the female passengers are not available.
New Locations of Pink Autos
The pink autos will now be available at Kalpana Square, Jaydev Vihar, Acharya Vihar, and Saheed Nagar, in addition to the other six existing locations.
A rally was organized on Sunday to promote the pink auto in Bhubaneswar. Moreover, the police has also started an impact assessment study on pink autos for the further improvement of the service in the city.
As many as 270 drivers had been put to psychometric tests prior to the launch of Pink Autos in Bhubaneswar. According to reports, 200 drivers cleared the test and were selected for the project.
