The much awaited ‘Pink Auto’ service for women commuters has been launched in Bhubaneswar from today with 200 going on the roads.
After examining about 300 auto-rickshaw drivers in the city, about 200 drivers were found eligible to drive the special pink coloured three-wheeler with ‘Pink Auto’ inscribed on them. A trained psychologist examined the drivers with 220 of them appearing for tests. The exercise was carried out to eliminate those having ‘criminal minds’. The criminal intents and leanings of drivers were studied during the tests.
The salient feature of the Pink Auto is that each of them would display police helpline numbers like 100 including QAT and 108 numbers written in bold. This apart, the autos will have a suggestion box, including a book of suggestion slips, which can be used by the commuters for the purpose of giving suggestions, sources said.
The special service started with the active cooperation of the Commissionerate Police, Paradeep Phosphates Limited, Piaggio Vehicles and the city auto-rickshaw association.
