No Odia Films Made it to the Indian Panorama 2015

News

In Short: No Odia films could make it to the the final list of 26 Feature Films that would be shown at the 46th International Film Festival of India 2015. As many as 7 Bengali films have been chosen to be shown at the film festival this year.

No film from Odisha has found a place in Indian Panorama-2015 section of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The film festival is being held in Goa from November 20-30.

Although two Odia films — ‘Pahadara Luha’ and ‘Tulasi Apa’ — and a Hindi film set in Odisha — ‘Adi Bhumi’ — were screened for Indian Panorama, none made it to the final shortlist.

‘Pahadara Luha’ has been directed by Sabyasachi Mohapatra, and ‘Tulasi Apa’ by Amiya Pattnaik. ‘Adi Bhumi’ has been directed by Satyabrata Dwibedy.

Indian Panorama attempts to capture lingual and stylistic variety in films in both feature and non-feature categories. This section encompasses many subcultures and lifestyles and includes creations from varied cultural landscape. It appears none of the Odia films were presented to the jury impressed them adequately.

“The jury headed by filmmaker Aribam Syam Sharma has selected 26 feature films from among 230 eligible entries, of which 7 are Bengali films.”

Other jury members included producer Tapan Biswas, cinematographer Mahesh Aney, actress/director, Bhagirathi, director Dilip Patnaik, actor/director Phonsok Ladakhi, director Praveen Sattaru, director/actor Major Ravi, writer/critic Bharathi Pradhan, cinematographer/director Fowzia Fathima, actress/director Bijaya Jena, director Panchakshari and writer critic MK Bhaskara Rao.
