The DTS Redline AC Bus services became operational for Bhubaneswar-Puri route from yesterday.
The launch of four such buses is believed to be of much help to tourists planning to visit Puri during the car festival. As per official figure, over a million pilgrims congregate in Puri to witness the popular festival in Odisha and take a glimpse of their deity Lord Jagannath during the festival.
Boost in Revenues Expected
The bus service operators hope that the car festival will boost the income especially during nine-day car festival. The DTS Redline bus service in Bhubaneswar is reported to have incurred losses due to poor passenger turnout in the capital city.
AC Bus Fares Doubled – Rs. 80
As per the officials, the fares of Redline AC buses plying between Bhubaneswar to Puri would be doubled.
“While people had to pay Rs 43 in normal city buses to go to Puri from Bhubaneswar or vice versa, they will have to pay Rs 80 here. However, anyone preferring places in between will have to play Rs 16 for first three kilometres and Rs 2 for every kilometre after that,” said chief executive officer of the Dream Team Shahara, the private operator of the city bus service.
Though the service started during the rath yatra festive period, many people come to this city from Bhubaneswar every day and it would be an attractive mode of transportation for them.
Announcements in Two Languages
While two buses will start from Puri, as many will ply from Bhubaneswar. The officials said that the bus names would be displayed both in English and Odia. They are also planning to make announcements in the bus in both the languages.
