The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to create 32 more parking lots in the city.
Based on a joint survey conducted with the traffic police to identify more parking lots, the BMC has 30 designated places earmarked for parking of vehicles.
However, the civic body is yet to decide whether to auction all the parking lots. Currently, out of the existing ones, 14 parking lots have been auctioned, which are managed by private parties.
City Needs 100 Designated Parking Lots
Urban Development Experts believe the city needs at least 100 designated parking lots given the size of the population and increasing strength of vehicles plying on city roads,
The city population has touched 10 lakhs and there are almost 7.5 lakh vehicles. There’s a dire need to streamline the parking at Unit-II market, as shoppers have to park vehicles on the road.
Singage and ID Cards
The BMC is also planning to put up a signage, “BMC Parking” at parking lots, so that commuters would recognize the designated lots. Besides, the civic body will also provide ID cards to all those managing the parking lots.
