The panorama of schools in Bhubaneswar is huge. Enumerated with a number of vernacular medium schools since its establishment, the state capital started with 3 English Medium Schools- DM Public School, St. Joseph’s Convent and Central School in the early 1950s and has emerged as the educational hub of Eastern India.

60 years later the mini metropolitan capital is studded with high profile schools, educational institutions and engineering colleges at just about every other corner of the city. One of the main reasons of the flooding population in the capital city is the desire of parents to educate their children in the best and most popular schools.

But when you have more options than you ever wanted, it’s difficult to make a decision, isn’t it? Especially, when each parent aspires to make their child an IIT alumni or a Neurosurgeon, even before they can pronounce “A”, selecting a good school is critical to their child’s career. But, worry not. If you are new to this competitive town, this is exactly the piece of read that would help you.

Looking at the trends with parents for a decade now and some surveys, we have effectively short listed the top 8 English medium schools of Bhubaneswar. Take a look.

DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur

The moment you ask your colleague, “Where do I enroll my kid?” the spontaneous reply will be “DAV Chandrasekharpur”.  Though the Dayanand Anglo Vedic clusters of institutions are popular among the residents of the capital, the most renowned is the Chandrasekharpur branch. Established in 1989, the school endeavored towards success and finally achieved it in the 2006 with the state’s best CBSE Results and the “National Topper” with 98.6% continues to maintain its stature with the consistency in performance over the years.

The school follows a CBSE curriculum with Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation Pattern (CCE) which consists of weekly, monthly and finally half yearly and an annual examination. It is a step taken by CBSE to regularize and make the students study throughout the year with details. It is effectively followed and implemented at DAV.

With strength of 3200 students, about 180 staff members and well maintained infrastructure facilities like an equipped library, labs, fields and elaborate classrooms, the school holds classes from Nursery to Higher Secondary (XI & XII). The school has recorded a 100 % board result since the last decade with around 60 percent of the pupils securing above the mark “90”.

All the faculty members are strictly selected based on the B. Ed qualification and experience. The school offers training programs for teachers on a regular basis to improve the levels and methods of class room teaching.

Moreover, the classes are divided into “6” sections with a strength not exceeding “35” and the allotment is based on the performance of the candidate. This has been effective in improving discipline, individual attention towards each student and managing the methodology depending upon the grasping level of the children.

Consistent as it is, this is the number one choice if you wish to enroll your kid and offer him/her every ounce of education there is to offer.

I hope , next time while surveying schools, don’t forget to look at the admission criteria and fees levied by the schools. Moreover no government school in the list only showcases your bias or your corrupt report. Mugging never makes an institution qualified to be ranked among top schools, but the quality of life that the schools enable a student to live makes the most. Schools should not be factories, which maximum of the schools listed above have been from years. What’s the problem in calling KVS as Kendriya Vidyalaya??? It’s just exposes the level of ignorance of the author when he addresses a number of schools by a stereotypic name of “Central School”.
Growing up in a environment where your neighbour boasts of his intelligence based on the school he goes is found widely in Bhubaneswar, even if you are now an IITian belonging to a government school and he just goes to a private college in the locality. This report just strengthens this stupidity.

No school is perfect & a school’s performance can’t be judged by the percentage of students securing 90% or above or many such gimmick’s like that. A school’s or a teacher’s real success lies if they succeed to make a poor student perform well both academically and morally. It’s my heartiest request to all parents not to judge a school by the amount of toppers it produces. Nowadays schools have turned into business grounds & they know the trick how to suck people’s money. People need to be vigilant regarding what effort the school provides on an individual basis. Making a meritous student perform well is easy, making an average / below average student perform well is where a school’s / teacher’s duty comes into place.

The fact that Stewart is not included in the list is atrocious. Being one of the oldest schools in the city( Over 50 years) and with students being in the State top 10 lists consistently over the last few decades, it does merit a name in the Top 8 schools in the least. Including Prabhujee in the top schools list is like a joke and there are no two ways about it.

Your analysis is wrong.Central school started functioning in late 60’s 1967 to be precise and it started functioning in a govt quarter in unit 1…How can we believe that the further report is correct. These are top schools you have mentioned are in terms of fees only with some exceptions. Stewart and Sainik have always being leading schools with boarding facilities and reasonable fees too!
